Boadicea the Victorious is one of those fragrance houses I’ve been circling around for a while. Their price tags alone are intimidating, and when paired with the opulent, often gem-adorned bottles, I find myself intrigued and intimidated in the same breath.
These are not the kinds of fragrances one blind buys.
Made in the UK, Boadicea the Victorious blends traditional perfumery artistry with high-quality ingredients sourced from around the globe, supported by modern fragrance technology. It’s sometimes hard to tell whether the brand is most celebrated for the perfumes themselves, the handcrafted artisan bottles they come in, or the luxury price point that places them firmly in the upper tier of niche fragrance.
The house was established with the goal of redefining the British niche perfume scene, drawing from the country’s rich heritage and history to create fragrances that reflect creativity, sensuality, confidence, and the distinct character of their British roots.
And then there are the bottles.
They are instantly recognizable—each one adorned with the Celtic Love Knot shield in gold, silver, or pewter. According to the brand, the symbol represents eternal love, unity, and strength. Watching the brand’s bottle-making process feels almost cinematic—molten metal cascading into molds before forming the ornate shields that decorate each bottle. It’s very Game of Thrones meets haute perfumery.

For this first exploration, I selected four fragrances somewhat randomly:
Green Sapphire
Consort
Harmonious
1907
I wasn’t led by notes, and while the bottles may have influenced me slightly, overall, this was a fairly spontaneous selection.
Woody • Earthy • Oud
Green Sapphire starts at $935 for a 100ml bottle, which already places it firmly in the “let’s sample first” category.
Truthfully, I selected this fragrance less for the notes and more for the bottle. Green is my favorite color, and the bottle is stunning—deep forest green with gold accents, the Celtic Love Knot shield centered with a single green sapphire.
The fragrance itself is described as
“a scent that breathes like the forests —
a primeval blend of smoky pine, saffron-laced raspberry and earthy oud.”
I hesitated to go in, because my relationship with oud is, well… complicated.
As expected, the oud comes on strong. The opening does have a lovely flash of raspberry and violet, followed by pine needles, but before long the oud dominates the composition.
It feels very much like a cold-weather fragrance, leaning more traditionally masculine. There’s also a faint rubber-tire note that I can’t quite shake.
While many reviews call it a compliment magnet, this one simply isn’t for me.
Full Bottle? Not for me.
Citrus • Woody • Aromatic
Consort is a complete contrast to Green Sapphire.
Where the previous scent was dense and smoky, this one opens bright and sparkling, with lime, citrus leaf, and juniper berries cascading into the air.
The bottle is entirely gold—gold on gold—and somehow it perfectly matches the brightness of the fragrance inside.
At $460 for 100ml, it’s actually one of the more “accessible” bottles in the Boadicea lineup.
This is an incredibly versatile fragrance—easy to wear day or night, any season. The opening citrus stays lively throughout the wear, eventually settling into a smooth woody-musk base.
It’s refined. Fresh without being fleeting.
Full Bottle? Wish-list worthy.
Powdery • Spicy • Woody
According to the brand: “The word harmonious means something containing elements that work flawlessly together without dissonance.”
Admittedly, this scent didn’t feel particularly harmonious to me.
Even the bottle feels bold and loud—
a bright coral-red translucent glass paired with a hand-polished pewter shield. Visually it already feels less serene and more dramatic.
The fragrance itself is complex and layered, almost as if it’s trying to showcase every possible facet at once.
The opening bursts with gourmand-leaning booziness mixed with sharp spices of cinnamon and cardamom. As it develops, powdery orris and leather begin to emerge, creating a push-and-pull between creamy softness and sharper edges.
The dry down is where this fragrance arrived for me. We're talking at least an hour later — before it settled into the most lovely, powdery, leathery combination. The dry down is the first glimpse of harmony I got from Harmonious.
This fragrance left me slightly confused—and slightly intrigued.
I tend to prefer more linear fragrances, but this one almost begs for another wear, as if it’s saying: You’re not done figuring me out yet.
Full Bottle? No. But I respect the artistry, and wouldn't mind a decant.
Citrus • Smoky • Earthy
Encased in a rich cherry-red bottle, 1907 was created as an exclusive tribute to Neiman Marcus, whose first store opened in Dallas in—you guessed it—1907.
The fragrance opens warm, sweet, and slightly spicy, immediately announcing its presence.
Lemon and pink pepper bring a bright tartness to the opening, balanced by subtle hints of cardamom. As it develops, sage and nutmeg soften the citrus and guide the fragrance toward a deeper, more grounded base.
The dry down settles into tobacco, cedarwood, tonka, and moss, giving the fragrance warmth and depth.
The entire time I wore it, I kept thinking: I know this smell.
It’s the most pleasant kind of familiarity, the kind that sits just outside of memory. Maybe it’s simply because my mom loved Neiman Marcus and wearing this fragrance brings a hint of her back to me.
Whatever it is, I want more of it.
Full Bottle? Absolutely. As soon as I have $675 to spare.
Final Thoughts
Exploring these four samples whetted my appetite to try more from Boadicea the Victorious.
These fragrances are bold, complex, and undeniably luxurious. “Beast mode” almost feels like an understatement.
Was I blown away enough to immediately purchase a full bottle at these price points? No.
But this is exactly why sampling matters. It allows you to move past the allure of the bottle and spend time with the fragrance itself—on your skin and in your life.
And that’s the whole point of Sample Before You Splurge.
