The Walk Down The Aisle

I remember this moment like it was yesterday. Right before the doors opened and you began walking me down the aisle- it was just you and me inside the church vestibule. We were giggling with nervous energy and you were saying “this really should be your father”, literally right up until the moment you handed me off to Pops, you questioned if you belonged there.

GeeGee, you were my father too. That’s why you did stand in that tiny church vestibule with me. For nearly 40 years you were my dad too. 🤍
I remember when the music began. The symphony of strings on the balcony of the church - as they began playing Trust by The Cure, my heart began to beat so fast and the tears began to run down my face. Not from sadness, it was pure gratitude - for that moment, for that music, for you to be the one standing with me there wiping away my tears. Ever the awkward parent, never sure what to do with the intimate moments, you cracked a joke, handed me your handkerchief, took my arm in yours and led me through the doors.
Thank you for being my rock on that day and every day. Your quiet love was ever present and always felt. I love you GeeGee. I miss you. Kiss mommy for me.
